PPGI is color-coated galvanized iron also known as pre-coated steel, coil-coated steel, color-coated steel, etc.usually using hot-dip galvanized steel substrate.The term is an extension of GI, which is the traditional abbreviation for Galvanized Iron.Today, the term GI generally refers to continuous hot-dip galvanized steel that is essentially pure (>99%) zinc, as opposed to the batch immersion process.PPGI refers to factory pre-painted zinc coated steel, which is painted before the steel is formed, as opposed to post-painted which is applied after forming.The hot-dip metallization process is also used to manufacture steel sheets and coils with aluminum coatings or zinc/aluminum, zinc/iron and zinc/aluminum/magnesium alloy coatings, which can also be pre-painted at the factory. Galvanized steel substrates for PPGI are typically produced on continuous galvanizing lines (CGL).A CGL can include a painting section after the hot-dip galvanizing section, or more commonly, the metal-coated substrate in coil form is processed on a separate continuous painting line (CPL).Metal coated steel is cleaned, pre-treated and given a variety of organic coatings which can be paint, vinyl dispersion or laminate.The continuous process used to apply these coatings is often referred to as coil coating.The steel produced in this process is pre-painted, pre-polished and ready for further processing into finished products or components.
